Bao Shaoyen is one of the secondary characters in the Crazy Rich Asians book series by Kevin Kwan, and one of the main antagonists in China Rich Girlfriend.

She’s the wife of Bao Gaoling and mother of Carlton Bao. She owns pharmaceuticals companies that she inherited from her family.
She is initially very upset by the existence of her husband’s "bastard" daughter, Rachel Chu, fearing that Rachel will ruin her husband’s career and the family name. She even forbids her husband having any contact with her, and threatens to leave him several times.
In the end, Shaoyen's hatred for Rachel dissipates when they meet in person and she finds out how similar to her own son Rachel looks.
