Philip Young a secondary character in the Crazy Rich Asians book series.
He is the father of Nick Young, and Eleanor Young's husband.
Background[]
Philip is the only son of the late Sir James Young and Shang Su Yi. He is married to Eleanor Young (nee Sung), and has one child, Nick Young, with her. Later, Rachel Chu becomes his daughter-in-law after marrying Nick.
He currently spends most of his time in Sydney, Australia, after moving from Singapore to be further away from his wife and mother, whose excessive tendencies tired him.
As the only son of Shang Su Yi, he was expected to receive the Shang family estate Tyersall Park once his mother died. However, his decision to move to Australia greatly displeased Su Yi, leading to some rumors that he was disinherited. After her passing, it was discovered was not the case, and she still left him with the largest share of the family estate Tyersall Park in her will.

Crazy Rich Asians[]
While relaxing in Sydney, Philip receives a call from his wife Eleanor as soon as she discovers that their son Nick has a new girlfriend, Rachel Chu, that he did not tell her about. Eleanor expresses her panic, while Philip does not take it as seriously, trying to reassure his wife that Rachel is likely a perfectly wonderful girl.
Philip is present at the dinner that his wife hosts to "welcome" Nick and Rachel, having flown in from Australia. Philip treats Rachel warmly and is genuinely interested, while Eleanor and her friends continue to view her with hostility and suspicion.
China Rich Girlfriend[]
Unlike his wife, Eleanor, Philip is invited to attend his son Nick's wedding to Rachel Chu. He gives them his blessing, but refuses to attend without his wife.
Later, he is berated by Eleanor for not informing her about their son's upcoming wedding. He tries to warn Nick about Eleanor coming to crash his wedding, but his message was too late to stop anything from happening, and Eleanor arrives by helicopter, ruining the wedding site. After his wife and son reconcile, and the wedding plans are resumed, he arrives to watch the actual wedding.
Rich People Problems[]
Philip is present for the reading of his mother's will after her passing. He is left with all the possessions of his late father, James Young, and the largest share of Tyersall Park, but still expresses a lack of interest, as he would much rather be back in Sydney.
